Ending in Peace

2016 was quite a year and here we are at the end of it. As many of us, I lost what I/we had so deeply hoped for. In the midst of the loss, I discovered reserves of steel I hadn’t suspected. I will stand for what is right. I hope that you will stand with me. I hope that we’ll laugh a lot as we stand together. What am I doing New Year’s Eve? Planning for Peace.

2017 will bring us many things. Among them, I hope to be with you, working for Peace. So here’s to you and a blessed year to come. Here’s to Peace.

Gratitude and Peace

The old year ends and the new year begins.

And so we give thanks. For the reminders of all we have gained with the passing of those gifts. For the surprises that entered our lives, that often, even if totally expected, change our lives and hearts in totally unexpected ways.

And so, even if our hearts are sore, we give thanks. and with all the Love we have gained, and all the Love that now sings only in memories, we look toward the new year, infinitely stronger for the Love we have known. We keep our hands open so that love may leave and come again…

Full hearts, even when tender, make Peace with determination. And oh, our world needs Peace.

Snow Is Snowing; Peace is Peacing

Well, the snow seems to have stopped and is now dripping off the branches. I love the snow and the Winter Wonderland it creates. Sorry, aren’t going to get me to whine about it. It’s altogether too beautiful. We could use the beauty to help us to remember what a gift Life is.

And Peace? Well, are we making it? Because if we’re not, nothing’s happening. And we have a world sorely in need of it.

We must Peace. (and then hope there’s enough snow to play in!)

Gathering Peace for the New Year

The fields lie dormant, doing what they’re good at. They’re a great reminder to rest and soak it in. Review the year that’s past. Rest up for the new. Exhale. Oh, that felt good.

It’s time to live off the fat of the land, trusting that the land will once more grow fat. But that’s a while from now. Now, we just have trust that Spring will come again. But we can’t hurry that. We can simply prepare.

The light is returning, but oh, so slowly. Let us practice Peace, right here and right now. Let us become proficient at it. Because the time is coming when our skills will be tested.

You and I are the fields which will bear fruit in the time ahead. Much does not work toward Peace. But we will not lose heart. Peace, my friends.

Okay, maybe there were a few too many metaphors in this short piece, but none the less, we must both practice Peace and bear its fruit… And rest. It won’t be the first time you’ve had to keep a few things in your mind!

Rainbow Peace

Rainbows are wonderful things. They are beautiful and ephemeral. But they are also enduring symbols of strength and unity and promise.

We’re going to need that hope in the year(s) to come. We’re going to need to be that hope in the year(s) to come.

More than ever, we must be the Peace: quiet, enduring, and beautiful — like a rainbow.

Gather in Peace

I wrote about gathering for the holidays and finding your pack.

But today, my mismatched pack will gather in Love outside a mosque to say no to the haters and to put them on notice. We are here. We are Love. We are together.

Peace isn’t something others get to take from us. They can’t have it. We are here. We are Love. We are together. (and Merry, Happy everything to you and your pack!)

The Peace of Short Days

I love the long night and the quiet whether starry or quiet. But I also love the short days.

Days like today when the air is crystalline and the skies are hard and distant and diamond bright. Days like yesterday when the skies are soft and cloudy and they come right down into the forest. Days when the mist dances frosty in the air. I like days when it snows, too, but we don’t seem to be having a lot of that.

People keep caroling that the light is coming back, but it’s so incremental so as not to be noticeable. Dwell in the dark a bit. Heal. Reflect. Get stronger. There’s a hard journey ahead. Let’s not go until we’re ready and by ready I mean prepared.

Everyone wants to be going, doing. There’s a time to take stock and to simply be.

Now is the time to be. Breathe in the Quiet. Breathe in the Peace. Breathe out your disappointments. Be in Peace.
