I think there are two things (at least for the purpose of this writing!) that we often forget. Change is constant. We’re all connected.
So it’s always this and that. Each season has within it both the season before and the season arriving. The land grows fields and trees according to whim both Earthly and Human. The clouds and the blue replace one another endlessly.
We are all these things. We are every kind of person.
We need to stop acting as if that were not true.
We need to Peace. let us Peace.
In my little town, we’ve been shaking our heads recently over a particularly nasty case of NIMBYism. And people, who seem to have forgotten how to think before they speak, are saying awful things. Thoughtless in word and deed.
Across town, one of the professors on campus received a hateful racist note on his white board. This is a new song for a different NIMBY chorale. Let our voices swell in outrage and despair. Let us tear our clothes and wail. This may not happen hear. We will not, may not stand for it.
Not in my back yard. No.
Peace demands better of us. Peace demands Change. Peace demands justice.
All year long the waters are in motion, and most beings complain about too much change. Now the waters are still and held in their orbit, all change halted until the sun gets its game face back on. What’s to complain about!? Put on that nice knit cap and those gloves from Grandma and enjoy this frozen moment!
Back and forth and back and forth… can’t you make up your mind? Oh right… you’re the weather, you don’t have to. And yet, the Sun’s changing what the North Wind refuses to acknowledge… here comes Spring, cold weather notwithstanding…
Even as I huddle against it (and superstitiously leave my snow shovel outside to ward off the snow… don’t laugh — have YOU had to shovel around L-burg lately, I don’t think so!), I notice the determination of the crocus (playing through!) and the tips of the complacent willows (so turning colors, here!). The sun is implacably moving north and life changes.
So, I’m frantically looking for spring colored clothes to wear that are not ALL black but still manage to envelop me in warmth… because 20˚ is after all 20˚!
But something’s coming, something good! I think Deb Slade has once again done her magic and shown the promise in the water! Thirteenth week. One-quarter of the year (or will be at the end of the week) through this Living the Vida Local… I’ve been seduced by my local Peace, how about you?
